This Site Officially Under Deconstruction

That's a wrap, folks.  Kindleville is no more.  I bought an iPad last week and since I'll no longer be using a Kindle I have nothing further to say here about the platform.

Thanks for all your support over the past couple of years.  This blog will remain accessible via www.kindleville.com till the next domain renewal (10 months from now, I believe).  Even after that expires it can still be found at kindleville.blogspot.com.

If you're interested in reading about my iPad adventures be sure to check out my iPadHound blog.  Thanks!

Hopefully any Kindle-critics that see this post will read your new blog and note that your dealbreakers may not be a universal experience. Specifically, you can live without e-ink and weeks of battery life. Me, I can't.

Thank goodness there are different machines to suit different needs... much as some people seem to think a single piece of hardware is going to come along and please us all. Pft! Anyway, grats on the iPad - enjoy!

Sad ! What about the next generation of Kindle ? You don't believe in the reaction of Amazon, do you ?

Not nice for Kindle ;)
You'll open a blog on the iPad?

Surprising to some? The iPad was simply the last straw, as Joe seemed to have lost interest quite some time ago, posting less and less, and then delegating the writing to others. I'm sure traffic dwindled as a result as it would any blog where the level of commitment wanes. My visits became more infrequent as a consequence. It seemed to me that there was a conflict of interest from the very beginning with Joe being an employee of O'Reilly and their having their own agenda which was frustrated by Amazon management (i.e., proprietary platform) on a number of issues. I commend Joe for his producing one of the best and professionally produced aggregators of news and commentary from the early stages of Kindle, but gradually it became clear to me his heart wasn't really in it any more and it was time to move on.

Julien, yes, I started a separate blog for the iPad. You'll find it here: www.ipadhound.com.

Nemesis, there was no conflict of interest with my job at O'Reilly. In fact, O'Reilly sells quite a few titles on the Kindle platform, both through Amazon and as .mobi files from our own website. I simply grew more disenchanted with the Kindle as time went on. The iPad blows it away, so I've moved on to what I consider a platform/device that's better suited for my needs.

Thanks for the time you put into this great blog - looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the iPad. I haven't made the switch from Kindle to iPad yet but I'm thinking about it.
